The Pedestrian Plaza is back and what better way to enjoy it than to support Midland Center for the Arts from 6:30 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 6 as they perform a FREE pop-up show  of their NEWSIES show on stage in the intersection of McDonald & Main. Get a chance to preview the show’s theatrical and musical talent before their events at the Center June 26-29.

Disney’s Newsies, based on the 1992 motion picture film, features a score by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, along with a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Inspired by the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, where newsboy Kid Blink led a band of orphaned and runaway “newsies” in a two-week-long battle against powerful newspaper publishers like Pulitzer and Hearst.

The high-energy stage musical is full of thrilling dance numbers and introduces eight brand-new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman, while retaining beloved classics from the film, including “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” “King of New York,” and “Santa Fe.” Join us for non-stop thrills in this captivating musical performed by teenage Rising Stars from the Great Lakes Bay region!
